John Abraham-starrer Shootout at Wadala has had a good opening at the box office with collections which touched Rs 25.50 crore in the first three days of its release. The movie managed to becomethe third best opening weekend collections for 2013 so far.
The movie, Shootout at Wadala is directed by Sanjay Gupta and in here Abraham plays gangster Manya Surve. The film also features Anil Kapoor, Sonu Sood, Manoj Bajpayee, Kangna Ranaut and Mahesh Manjrekar.
The movie is based on the first-ever registered encounter by the Mumbai Police, which took place on November 1, 1982.
Shootout at Wadala managed a collection of Rs 8.25 crore nett on the day of its release (May 3), following it up with collections of Rs 7.50 crore nett and about Rs 9.25-9.75 crore nett total on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
According to Boxofficeindia.com, the top opening weekend grosser is the multi-starrer Race 2 (Rs 48.25 crore), followed by Himmatwala (Rs 26.50 crore). Akshay Kumar-starrer Special 26 (Rs 23.50 crore) came in at the fourth spot while Vishal Bhardwaj-directed Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (Rs 21.25 crore) took the fifth position.
IN the Mumbai circuit, Shootout at Wadala has scored the best, collecting about Rs 10 crore nett at the box office.
The Monday-to-Thursday period this week will hold the key for the gangster movie, as another hit movie of this year Aashiqui 2 showed business picking up on weekdays despite not having a great opening weekend.
Shootout at Wadala being an action film is unlikley to be as steady as the Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer romantic movie, but if the film rakes in about Rs 40 crore nett, it will be a decent first week collection.
